D E Consult is delighted to be hosting a breakfast event on the 18th September near St Paul’s Cathedral. We have teamed up with the esteemed Dr Ali Budjanovcanin to explore the increasingly prevalent topic of Emotional Intelligence (also known as ‘Emotional Quotient’, or EQ).
Ali is a Lecturer in Organisational Psychology and Public Sector Management at King’s Business School, King’s College London. She holds a PhD in Management Studies and her research interests focus on leadership in organisations, careers in private and public sector organisations, as well as emotions in the workplace. Ali is accredited as a coach and in the use of Emotional Intelligence tools, and has worked with a broad range of institutions throughout her career including: Women in Law London, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, the Church of England and the NHS. She has been published in leading journals including International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Vocational Behaviour, British Journal of Industrial Relations and Journal of Managerial Psychology, as well as featuring in industry journals including the Pharmaceutical Journal and The Law Society Gazette.
The talk will be 45 minutes long and will focus on how emotion – an inevitable part of the human experience, which often has negative connotations in organisations – can be harnessed by leaders for a more effective and thriving workplace. Ali will talk about the underlying mechanisms through which emotional responses shape and affect different processes and relationships at work, and the strategies through which we all, but especially leaders, can use these to enhance performance, effect change and manage stress at work. Ali will be drawing on cutting edge research to examine why emotions and emotional intelligence are important tools for leaders.
